What is Spaceway or Spaceway 3

March 28, 2008 by admin

Spaceway, built by Hughes Corporation, is a family of next generation satellites already in space for use with satellite internet and satellite TV.  Spaceway-1 and Spaceway-2 are used by Direct TV to provide Satellite Television and HD TV service.  Spaceway-3 provides additional bandwidth for HughesNet High Speed Satellite Internet subscribers. The new HN9000 modem will be used to access the High Speed Internet provided by Spaceway-3.  If you are a new customer using the HN9000 modem we would like comments and customer feedback on this blog.  If you are considering becoming a new Hughes Satellite Internet customer and have more questions about Spaceway service, please leave your comments on this blog and our team will do our best to answer them.  You can also see Wikipedia Spaceway for more information.

When will Spaceway be available in Montana, I heard from the HughesNet rep at Walmart that Spaceway will be much faster?

I just got my Hughesnet HN9000 modem activated today on the Spaceway Satellite and it is very fast compared to the Wild Blue Dish I was using. It seems like the latency is less and my VOIP phone is working great and now we’re going to try xbox live.

    Thanks Hughes

Robert Thompson Jr. said “activated today on the Spaceway Satelitte.”

PLEASE post how you managed to achieve this! I’ve been talking with Hughesnet for weeks and they are giving out no details, taking no list, etc.

I live in a remote area with no possibility of HS internet, and terrible, ancient, and cobbled together copper phone lines. Based on the recommendation of the local Hughes installer, I have delayed getting Hughesnet, with the hope of getting HS internet via ‘the new satellite’ (Spaceway?), and at the same time cancelling my old ATT phone service, and going to VOIP. What experiences are people having, and when can I get this new service in East Tennessee? It almost seems that Spaceway is a big secret.

We want to switch from Wildblue to Hughes Net. First, however, we want to make this move only if the Spaceway 3 satellite is available to us. Judging from the above comments, many customers do not yet have access to Spaceway 3. Is is or is it not available? We live in rural New Mexico. Thank you.

    Whose VOIP are you using?
I was told existing systems would work reliably.
Are you still enjoying success with yours?

    Thanks, John
